First Time for Everything

These 3 were so excited to be climbing their first ever mountain and I can’t find the words to tell you how happy I was, just to be in the mountains with the kids at long last. It didn’t matter if we made it to the summit or not (we did) we just wanted to expose the children to the adventure of it all. 3 Years ago but it feels like a lot longer and just yesterday at the same time.

A Perfect Spot for Supper

We were on our way up the South East side of Pen y Fan when we stumbled upon this lovely spot. While the kids tried their hardest to get wet, we cooked tea and brewed up and considered making camp. It was the perfect spot really but by the time the last dog walkers had disappeared from view, the sun had dipped behind the mountain and the midgies were out in force so we pressed onto higher ground and made camp near the the summit of Fan Y Big. Still, it wasn’t a bad spot for supper.

Lils Lost Boot

Here’s Lil having just lost her boot in the mud on the Cerne Valley Trail. What you can’t see is the rest of us either giggling or getting the photo taken before┬árushing to her aid! It was funny really, she had already lost it once before and this little trail was supposed to be our drier alternative after getting snowed off Glyndwrs Way only a few days earlier. I will take this opportunity to compliment her on her balancing skills!

Failing on Boulders

Here I am just after getting my backside handed to me on our first, proper bouldering trip to Dartmoor, earlier in the summer. I’ve been climbing for about a year and while I know that it’s not the kind of activity you can start at 39 years old and expect to be great at, I had hoped for better results than this.

I dropped the grade down from what I was doing fairly easily indoors and just couldn’t climb anything. I could say I was tired from the drive and wet camp the night before. I may have been a little anxious about not hurting myself, after all no one else was able to drive the kids home or maybe, and this may be the truth, I’m not as good at this as I thought I was!
